On January 4, 2023, Commercial Metals Company Steel West Virginia (CMC) applied to the WV Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Division of Air Quality (DAQ) for a permit to construct a steel micro mill located on the old DuPont River Works site at 447 DuPont Road, Martinsburg, Berkeley County.

Operational air permits for major air emission sources are required by Title V of the Clean Air Act. All major air emission sources such as Rockwool are required to apply for a Title V air permit within one year of starting operation.
